It can be argued with some validity that one's overall movement through life is reflected in his or her creative endeavor, and Eric Alexander's strength and versatility on the saxophone can be viewed from this perspective. Although still young, Eric has already covered a lot of territory, both literally and figuratively. By now, Alexander has lost count of how many albums feature his playing; he guesses 60 or 70. While he has garnered critical acclaim from every corner, what has mattered most has been to establish his own voice within the illustrious bop-based jazz tradition which is exactly what he does on his latest HighNote release. Recorded at the famed Van Gelder Studios under the watchful eyes of RVG himself, Eric and Co. fire through eight tracks of standards (All in the Game, Where Or When), Monk's great Ruby My Dear and three new original charts. The close-knit ensemble of a band of regular buddies, coupled with their phenomenal chops and their wealth of experience make for a listening experience not soon forgotten and some of the finest jazz committed to disc.

With Harold Mabern; piano, Nat Reeves; bass and Joe Farnsworth; drums.

Tracks: Where Or When; Typhoon II; Where Is The Love; All in the Game; Open and Shut; Ruby My Dear; Little Lucas; Bye Bye Baby.
